St. Ives
Is a beautiful harbour town, situated on the North Cornish Coast and endowed with wonderful light. The higgledy-piggledy cobbled streets and old fishermen's cottages blend with an eclectic selection of shops, galleries and studios around the picturesque, working harbour. For many years St Ives and the surrounding area has been a haven for artists and craftspeople - Barbara Hepworth, Bernard Leach, Patrick Heron and Peter Lanyon, to name a few - attracted by the quality of the natural light as well as the rugged, dramatic nature of the coastline and landscape.
St Ives Bay has been voted one of a handful of the most beautiful bays in the world and boasts some of Cornwall's finest beaches. Of the three in the town, the nearest one to the house is the famous surfing beach of Porthmeor (5 mins walk) overlooked by the Tate Gallery. The other two more sheltered stretches, Porthgwidden and Porthminster, are within an easy walking distance. Slightly further afield, but walkable, is the spectacular and vast beach of Porth Kidney Sands, practically deserted even on the hottest day of the year.
This is St. Ives - a jewel situated at the south-western tip of Cornwall flanked by miles of magnificent coastal scenery. Warm summers and Britain's mildest climate make St. Ives perfect for all seasons.
